- Park City Unveiled: Beyond the Slopes – Exploring Non-Skiing Adventures
Park City, Utah is known as a world-class ski destination. Skiers come from around the globe to explore its vast terrain. Whether skiing Another World or Kokopelli at the Canyons or enjoying the elite skiing experience at Deer Valley, spending a winter holiday in Park City is an ideal vacation. However, what if you aren't a skier? What if your family or loved one is hitting the slopes on your winter holiday and this isn't your ideal way to spend a holiday? Fear not; the following are ideas to experience the magic of winter in Park City without skiing or riding. Winter Hikes: Park City is home to over 50 km of groomed trails in the winter. Matt's Flat is a trail with great access to Round Valley's sweeping panoramic views. The Lost Prospector Trail provides a quiet trail with views across Prospector and Park Meadows. The McPolin Farm trail leads to the McPolin Barn, a popular place for family photos. The trail is wonderful in the summer; however, in the winter, it is a fee-based Nordic trail for cross-country skiing. You can absolutely still go and take beautiful photos; however, you won't be able to explore the trail beyond the barn unless you don cross-country skis. If you are looking for a great winter hike that is accessible for the entire family, the Park City Union Pacific Rail Trail is a 28-mile trail that goes from the charming streets of Park City's Main Street through the neighborhoods of Prospector and Park Meadows. Ice Castles in Midway, Utah: Embark on a magical journey to nearby Midway, Utah, where nature's wonders take the form of breathtaking ice castles. Nestled in the picturesque landscapes, these castles are not just a frosty spectacle but a haven for families seeking adventure and unique photo opportunities. As you venture into the crystalline depths, be prepared to witness a mesmerizing display of frozen beauty. The Ice Castles of Midway are a manmade marvel, with glistening icicles adorning the cave walls like nature's own chandeliers. Capture the enchanting play of light as it dances through the ice formations, creating a surreal ambiance perfect for one-of-a-kind photographs. Families with children will find the Ice Castles a playground of wonder. The safe and accessible pathways make it an ideal destination for parents looking to introduce their little ones to the magic of winter. Kids can marvel at the shimmering ice sculptures, fostering a sense of awe and appreciation for the world around them. Bring out the cameras and smartphones because the Ice Castles offer a backdrop that turns every snapshot into a masterpiece. Whether it's the laughter of children echoing through the frozen chambers or the intricate patterns of ice formations, each moment captured becomes a cherished memory. So, gather your family, bundle up, and immerse yourself in this frosty wonderland for an unforgettable experience that combines unique beauty with family fun. Tubing at Woodward Park City: A great way to enjoy the beauty of winter with the entire family is tubing. At Woodward Park City conveyer belts transport riders to differentiated hills. The first belt is the starting point for a smaller hill for families with younger children. Disembark the first conveyor belt for the higher slope if your group has riders older than six years of age. Riders can go independently, in tandem, or make a giant train. This is a perfect way to enjoy a winter holiday together when the entire group doesn't ski or snowboard. Additional winter activies that are not dependent on skis or snowboards include Horse Back Riding with Rocky Mountain Outfitters, a visit to the Alf Engen Ski Museum, or a Canyons Scenic Lift. Park City and the Wasatch Back is gorgeous location to refuel, recharge and reset. There is so much to do and see during the winter that it is a beautiful destination both on and off the slopes.
- Mastering the Art of Carry-on: A Guide to Optimal International Travel
When anyone hears tales of travel woes, they almost always involve lost luggage. Whether it has happened to you personally or to a loved one, arriving at your destination without your belongings is quite the headache. As a family, we always adhere to a strict rule of never checking a bag when we fly. I mean never. Even for long international trips that are three weeks or longer, I only pack items that can comfortably fit into my bag. If it can't fit, it just doesn't come. The following are tried and true tips to ensure you take that long trip across the globe, but do not check a bag. Shoes - Three pairs is the most that is reasonable to bring. Wear the largest pair on the flight, whether that is a cute pair of boots or running sneakers. Pack small items inside the shoes to maximize space. Follow the 3:1 Rule. Pack three shirts or tops for each bottom. Have a plan for laundry on your trip. Whether it is finding a local laundromat, using the hotel or cruise ship services, or renting an Airbnb with a washer, include laundry as part of your pre-trip planning. Plan outfits with a similar color scheme to ensure you can mix and match. Every piece of clothing has multiple uses. A shirt worn for running can also be a cover-up for the beach or a base layer in a colder climate. Opt for a dry fit and/or Merino wool products that can be laundered in a hotel sink if needed. Bring an international power adapter with multiple ports. Unidapt Universal Travel Adapter has several ports for various devices, which can save the day when someone in your party forgets their charger. Wear your bulkiest items on the plane. Perhaps that is a pair of jeans or a fleece; see what will occupy the most space and wear it instead of packing it. Use compression packing cubes . This is an outstanding way to stay organized and bring a surprising amount of clothes. If your trip includes several climates, this is a must as you can easily separate your warm and cold weather clothes. Ultimately, think about everything you are bringing. Do you really need it? I firmly believe that adopting a carry-on-only policy guarantees a more efficient and convenient travel experience!
